BRIAN HUNTER

ARTIST STATEMENT

Winnipeg-based Red River Métis artist Brian Hunter creates oil paintings in response to a shifting and uncertain world. His recent collection is both an escape and a reflection: dark yet vibrant, immediate and intuitive. Figures emerge and dissolve through layers of colour, offering glimpses of form within abstraction.

Hunter obtained a BFA from Concordia University in Montreal. He previously spent a year in residence at the Gwangju Museum of Art in South Korea. His work has been exhibited at Kunsthalle Gwangju, the Ourense Film Festival in Spain, and The Power Plant in Toronto. He is a national winner of the RBC Canadian Painting Competition and currently works as a detective with the Winnipeg Police Service.
